In our role as healthcare professionals, legal documents serve as a tool to assure the ethical protection of the person in our care. This innovative seminar will explore various types of legal documents that are encountered in health professions, how the documents are used, and who holds the decision making power if the individual is unable to make decisions. We will also explore the often confusing arena of government benefits and assisting others in qualifying without detrimentally affecting them. Preparation can also help prevent exploitation of incapacitated individuals, and we will discuss the various types of abuse and exploitation, so we can better understand what we can do to protect those we serve.
