Mexican Immigrant Families and Social Work Practice

By Cecilia Ayon, MSW, PhD (3 CEU’s designed to meet AZBBHE requirement for cultural competency)

Dr. Cecilia Ayón is an Assistant Professor at the School of Social Work at Arizona State University. She has worked with the Latino community to develop and implement service programs that meet their needs. Her research examines Latino family well-being and this population’s interactions with systems of care.

A theoretical framework for practice with Mexican immigrant families will be utilized to address factors that promote and hinder Mexican family well-being; and, to examine a wide range of issues that social workers may face when working with such families. The workshop format includes lecture, discussion, and small group activities.
